FAQ

What is the purpose of the Ku-ring-gai Phoenix partnership?

The purpose of the partnership is to provide development opportunities for our members seeking to play a more competitive standard of football. Thus enabling us to improve our player retention and offer a competitive alternative to the larger development clubs in our area, yet still maintaining our established community values.

We see the partnership offering a premium football experience for members with the ambition and commitment to pursue football growth. The partnership model will allow local kids to stay affiliated with a home club in your locale (North Turramurra or Gordon) and enjoy more competitive football but in the confines of a values based community club environment. We hope it represents the best of both worlds!

Why 'Ku-ring-gai Phoenix'?

A group of members brainstormed names that would create a sense of local excitement and have a certain level of uniqueness. Names that we felt would attract players and invoke pride in the area being represented. A short list of names was provided to the community for a vote and 'Ku-ring-gai Phoenix FC' (or Phoenix FC for short) won by a significant margin. Noting that each of the three community clubs that baseline the partnership have a winged mascot so the Phoenix was representative of the clubs rising together as one!

Which age groups and divisions will be the focus?

In 2025 we entered into JDL2 and for 2026 we have been offered a place in JDL1 (TBC), which is the top division for mixed Under 8 to Under 11. The Northern Suburbs Football Association has provided JDL Club rankings to assist with the 2026 draw creation and to maximise player development experience

Phoenix FC will be focused on the following age groups/divisions:

U8 - U11 (JDL)

G10 - G11 (GJDL)

U12 and U14 (Development squad pathways)

G12 (Diamond League)

NOTE - our association (NSFA) will introduce new development league regulations in 2026, including defined trial dates, offer windows, and single club JDL entry to ensure a fairer and more transparent process for all players and families.

What junior age groups will Phoenix participate in?

For U8 to U11 (boys or mixed) age groups the highest level of competition is called Junior Development League (JDL) which can be further broken down into JDL1 and JDL2 - which are essentially Div 1 and Div 2 respectively. Phoenix FC will likely field teams in the JDL2 division.

For G10 to G11 specifically, the NSFA had introduced Girls Junior Development League (GJDL) for G10 in 2025. It's the highest division for Girls Under 10 andPhoenix FC has again been allocated a slot to enter a team in this age group for 2026 along with natural progression to Girls Under 11.

For G12 to G18 (girls only) age groups, the highest division of competition for junior girls only football is called Diamond League. Phoenix FC has been allocated a slot to enter a team in G12 Diamond League for 2026.

For U12 to U18 (boys or mixed) age groups, the highest division of competition for junior boys or mixed is called Super League. Phoenix FC will be conducting trials for U12 and U14 Development Squad teams who will play in Division 2. Or in the U12 age group, 'Super League 2'

What happens after the trials?

Players will be notified within 7-10 days after the final trial as to whether they have been selected for a Phoenix FC team. Some players may be taken on later should there be spaces available in our teams.

If a player is selected, a non refundable deposit will be required to secure the player's position on the team. The balance will be payable in due course.

Players will need to be registered in our admin system. And come January 2026, each player will need to register online with one of the home clubs of Gordon FC or North Turramurra. Fees will be exactly the same between the two home clubs and we suggest that you chose based on affinity and/ or locality.

What kit will Ku-ring-gai Phoenix players wear?

Our club colours are pink and charcoal (similar to Inter Miami!) which represent playing with pride and passion. Our current playing kit can be seen on the 'Kit' page above

What will this cost?

Fee details will be released with our player offers but the range will be $1200 - $1500 per player. This will include player kit, two training sessions per week, game day coaching with our qualified partners (Vision Football) and more...

When and where will training be?

Training starts on 16th February 2026 and will be at NTRA on the grass fields. Training will be on Mondays and Wednesdays at the following times:

  • U8 & U9: 4:30–5:30pm
  • G10 & G11: 4:30–5:45pm
  • U10, U11 & G12: 5:30–6:45pm
  • U12 & U14: 6:15–7:30pm

Training runs throughout the April holidays. And breaks for one week during the July holidays.

Training will run until the end of August

What if my child does not make or does not want to trial for a Phoenix Development Team?

Community football will always be a major focus for our foundation clubs North Turramurra FC and Gordon FC. We will continue to maintain as many teams as we can in our inclusive community club environments, especially for those who just want to enjoy playing football with their friend groups. Registration for community clubs will open in January!

What if I have more questions?

Ku-ring-gai Phoenix FC is jointly operated between the North Turramurra FC and Gordon FC committees, we ask for your patience as we work through trial details and regulations that come with a new season.
